A landmark agreement has been signed between the Federal Education and Training Authority (ETA), Dire Dawa University, the Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists (EAA), the Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA), and the Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) to digitize the accreditation process for health science programs in Ethiopia.
This transformative initiative, supported by USAID’s Enhanced Anesthesia Activity, is set to modernize and streamline the accreditation process, paving the way for a more efficient and transparent system.
Dr. Dunkana Ngusa, Deputy Director General of ETA’s Accreditation and Standardization Department, announced that the authority is already reviewing applications submitted by higher education institutions, signaling rapid progress toward full implementation.
Highlighting the benefits of this initiative, Mr. Amare Hailekiros, Executive Director of the Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists, explained that digitizing and automating the accreditation process will significantly reduce the burdensome paperwork currently faced by ETA and higher education institutions. This streamlined process, from application submission to accreditation decisions, will not only cut delays but also improve communication and operational efficiency.
Mr. Amare expressed heartfelt gratitude to USAID for their pivotal role in enabling this innovation and emphasized the collaborative effort involved in elevating the standards of health science programs in Ethiopia.
This cutting-edge digital system marks a pivotal step in enhancing the quality of health education and training, fostering a more responsive and effective accreditation framework nationwide!
